The Bee Tree

This is the linden tree in my front yard:

When it blooms in the spring, it attracts bees by the dozen--so many that the tree buzzes. The first time it happened, I was surprised because I thought that only fruit trees bloomed so profusely.

Linden blossoms are very fragrant and have long been dried and used to make healing tea. Linden wood is strong, light, and resists warping. Lindens appear in many legends, most notably Slavic, and represent love, prophecy, and justice.

The tree is strongly associated with female energy. Look into the branches of a linden tree, and you may spy Aphrodite, the Virgin Mary, or Lady Gaga. Okay, so I'm joking about that last one. I think.

And there's a song too - what is it? - damn, these senior moments are getting more frequent!

I'm not familiar with the song. I'll do a little research :-)

I didn't know that about linden trees, but this spring I, too, found a lot of bees in the lone tree in my front yard. It had some sort of blossoms that didn't look like much to me, but the bees went crazy for them. I don't know the name of this tree, some sort of desert tree, I guess.

I've never heard of it. I'm not a fan of bees. The really big fuzzy ones fall in love with my lilacs when they bloom in the spring. It's terrifying.

Just like my orange tree. Isn't it weird to have a buzzing tree? :)

I do love the buzzing tree, and I think bees are pretty awesome in general. (Sorry, Tonja.) My husband has been stung while mowing, however, so he might feel otherwise :-)
