Friday Fun: Little Free Library

Hey, everyone. If it's hot where you live--like it is here--I hope you'll have a chance to find some shade or a swimming pool this weekend!

Some neighbors a few blocks down have put up a Little Free Library--kind of a combination mailbox/birdhouse-looking enclosure where readers of all ages can exchange books. I'd never heard of this before, but apparently they are popping up all over the world. (Find the U.S. map here.)

We have a very good library system in Fort Collins, but there is something so charming and neighborly about having an exchange box right down the street. I dropped off a couple of kids books and chose a novel for myself.

Happy reading! If you have a Little Free Library in your town, I'd love to hear about it.

I should watch that show. I miss all kinds of interesting things people tell me about later :-)

First, it is so NOT hot here and I wish it were warmer. Sitting at 56 degrees at 7:30 am and likely to get a high of 70 - marine layer will dissipate around noon or 1:00 but the temp will never really go up. I sit here in flannels and a hoodie....
as for Little Free Libraries, I have heard of these too. I suspect there is more than one in this small artsy town and I briefly considered putting one up on our front sidewalk. Maybe.....

A great idea by those who must love books. Let's keep them circulating. My daughter's apt block does something similar by leaving books for exchange on a counter in their lobby.

I love the fact that these old printed books will keep on bringing pleasure to a new reader!

You can't do that with ebooks, not at the moment, anyway. . . although I can't imagine virtual exchanging of books to be something all could do - it requires devices.
Great idea to share.

The Little Free Library is having a Film Festival http://bit.ly/LFLFilmFestival
I love this! 8 in Vermont. The closest one to us is 20 minutes away. I think we may need to check that out! What a great thing while traveling, too.

I wrote about the one in our neighborhood last year. Here's a link: http://northofprospect.com/index.php/snapshots/30-fort-collin-s-littlest-library

I've noticed it's low on books lately. And I have sooooo many books I need to clear out of here. I guess I should put the books by the dog leashes so I don't forget to take them with me next time I go walking.
